Tucked into the heart of the Walt Disney Imagineering campus, Mickey’s of Glendale is more than just a store—it’s a behind-the-scenes treasure trove for Imagineers. This exclusive retail space offers carefully curated merchandise from the parks and specialty items only available to those within the WDI family.

The project was a focused interior renovation, designed to refresh the shop’s finishes and strengthen its connection to the surrounding campus courtyard. The goal was to help Mickey’s feel like a natural extension of the environment it lives in—blending seamlessly into the architectural identity of Imagineering’s creative home.

Custom retail fixtures were developed to maximize flexibility and display capacity within the compact footprint, allowing the shop to highlight seasonal merchandise and collectible items with ease. Every finish and material was selected to support both function and storytelling, giving the refreshed space a sense of magic, purpose, and belonging.

Materials were selected to echo the natural textures and tones of the surrounding Imagineering campus—bringing warmth, simplicity, and a touch of storytelling into the retail environment. The result is a palette that feels grounded in place while supporting the store’s evolving needs.

Lessons Learned

One of the key takeaways from this project was learning how to design for constant change. The custom retail displays needed to be both purposeful and adaptable—capable of showcasing everything from seasonal merchandise to exclusive event launches. Finding the right balance between a distinct design language and a neutral backdrop was essential. The solution lay in creating fixtures that were flexible, durable, and quietly expressive—supporting the store’s identity without overshadowing the magic of the merchandise itself.
